November 2008 - Nam Le wins 2008 Dylan Thomas Prize
Nam Le, the Vietnamese born author won the £60,000 2008 Dylan Thomas Prize sponsored by University of Wales. The winner was announced at an awards dinner at the Brangwyn Hall in Swansea by the chairman of the judges Peter Florence with Dylan's daughter Aeronwy making the presentation. July 2008 - Dylan Thomas Prize 2008 longlist
The longlist for the £60,000 2008 Dylan Thomas Prize was announced by the actor Michael Sheen at Margam Orangery on Sunday 13th July. The entry was described by the board chairman Peter Stead as being "..better than the Booker entries and the strongest entry of any literary competition.." Check out the longlist or here

October 2006 - The Dylan Thomas Prize first winner

The world's largest literary prize - the £60,000 ($100,000) Dylan Thomas Prize for young authors - was launched at the start of the 2004 of the Dylan Thomas Festival simultaneously in Swansea and New York. The prize has the backing of Swansea born actress Catherine Zeta-Jones who has agreed to be an international ambassador. 

Rachel Trezise from the Rhondda Valley was the first winner with her collection of short stories Fresh Apples. She collected the prize at an award ceremony in Swansea Brangwyn Hall on 27th October 2006.

One of the shortlisted authors James Scudamore has had his book The Amnesia Clinic shortlisted in the Best First Novel section of the Costa (formerly Whitbread) Prize.
